Himmatwala Movie Review

Sajid Khan said in an interview prior to this release that he made this film because of his love for it.He wanted to recreate the same magic of the 80’s hit for ‘ his ‘ audience. The audience, after watching the film, would think whether there was actually any magic in it. Because Himmatwala comes across as another nonsensical, over the top drama from the filmmaker. Like his previous films, this one too is exaggeration of the plot with almost no sensible story. The original one too was a typical masala for the times but this one overdoes it in all the aspects. At certain points it is a spoof of the original but definitely you don’t need to have watched the original to discern this one.

Fashioned exactly on the same story as its 1983 saga, the story is typical of that era.
Wronged mother, Savitri raises her son, Ravi to be strong enough to avenge the brutalities they have faced. Added with a Shakespearean sprinkle of Romeo and Juliet, enemies Ravi and Rekha fall for each other giving the film a love angle. Technically, he has given a more lustrous look to the original Himmatwala, which is good. But still one would wonder if it is worth it, since it is surely no masterpiece and definitely no one really asked for a remake of it!

“I live on the ground floor, so I don’t need a lift,” responds a character, when another asks if he needs a lift.
At, another time, after indulging in a silly, scream contest, an angry man tells another; “I’m bored of As, let’s start with Bs now.”
Surely, Sajid’s target audience demands a little more credit, or should I say, grey matter.
Much like his whimsical take on the original, Sajid eliminates many characters from the original, and introduces a few, unimpressive ones, among them a bunch of eager item girls.

Sajid's claim to fame is his big mouth, if he shuts that and concentrate seriously in film making, he can be good director. We expect to see something new, as far as Himmatwala is concerned, Original is Original. No personnel comments. But its better to avoid and hope to see some good flicks from his hands.

No wonder, Sajid Khan tries to bring back the boisterous melodrama of 80s with the remake, but unfortunately, he doesn't even succeed to do anything good for the film. Himmatwala is a 'BAD, BAD' film, which is full of over-the-top acting, irritating melodrama, lame jokes, mindless entertainment and a few awkward dance steps.
